COVID-19: 12,000 fake N95 masks seized by Bengaluru crime branch

Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch raided a godown and seized 12,000 fake N95 masks worth Rs.20 lakh on Monday night. The fake face masks with N95 seal were being manufactured with normal cloth were found at the place.

Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) said that around 70,000 fake masks worth Rs.1.05 crore were already sold by accused persons.  However, the police are yet to make arrests in the case.

Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) stated that the raid was conducted in the godown of ZIS Engineering, BNC Bangalore Diabetic Centre, located in the second block, HRBR Layout in Kalyan Nagar, on Monday night.

According to Patil, the godown is located in the second block, HRBR Layout in Kalyan Nagar. A cheating case against the perpetrators was filed at Banaswadi police station.

Investigation in the case is underway and according to recent changes in Essential Commodities Act by central government which had brought masks and hand sanitisers, any person found guilty may be punished with imprisonment up to seven years or fine or both and can be detained for a maximum of six months.

Few days back, a team from the Health department of Noida Sub-Divisional Magistrate busted a fake sanitizer and mask factory.
