The Class 9 result is expected by only in June in the state of Tamil Nadu due to the extension of the COVID-19 lockdown till 30th April. Due to delays in the result, online counseling for Engineering intake will also be delayed.
As soon as the evaluation of Class 9 answers script begins, the higher education department will start planning to begin the registration of online application for engineering counseling, so that it will reduce the wait time for the students taking admission in Engineering in the state based on the Class 9 score.
This year within 2nd March to 22nd March, around eight lakh students appeared for the Class 9 exams. Originally the class XII result was to be released by 24th April, but the evaluation has been postponed due to ongoing pandemic lockdown.
As per the official from the school education department, the evaluation is expected to start from the second week of May, as the process will take at least two weeks, and the result will be published only in the month of June.
The official also stated that as the lockdown has been extended up to 30th April, it will take a few days to make the necessary arrangements to disinfect the evaluation centers. Also, the evaluation can start only once the public transport service will be resumed.
Around 34000 students who were absent for the 22nd March will be able to give the exam as the state government has announced that they will conduct re-exam for these students. The CBSE is yet to finish conducting the Class XII exam.
A source from the directorate of technical education stated that due to the delay in the Class XII result, the schedule of the engineering counseling would be affected as the admission is based on the score.
Similar to the last year, the directorate of technical education will be conducting online engineering counseling. To monitor the process, the government has also formed a high-level committee.
The students who are interested can participate in online counseling after the result is declared. The department is also looking into the ways to speed up the process of counseling after the lockdown is lifted.
